Introduction: A Journey Beyond the Surface
When we move somewhere new, the true journey begins with listening to the land. To understand a place is to know its past, honor its stories, and meet the people who have preserved its history. When I settled into the Palm Springs and Coachella Valley area, I was drawn to the ancestral heritage of the Cahuilla people, who have lived on this land for thousands of years. Seeking their wisdom and connection to the natural world, I visited their reservation, spoke with elders, and explored their heritage museum—a space resonating with their stories and spirituality. This project, a series of shamanic journeys visualized through art, pays homage to their sacred landscapes and knowledge.

Creating the Visions: A Journey in Materials and Symbols
Each piece in this collection is a tangible expression of a shamanic journey I experienced—a passage between worlds, a glimpse into the deeper layers of consciousness. I crafted these visions with my own hands, using markers, metallic paints, ceramics, and gold accents. These materials carry significance: the ceramics symbolize the grounding power of earth, markers and paints capture the intensity of mystical insight, and gold highlights mirror the reverence for the sacred—a nod to the universal value of what lies beyond the visible. The Cahuilla people’s relationship with this land has influenced every choice I made, shaping each piece into more than an image; each is a portal, a sensory bridge to realms typically left unexplored.

Honoring the Ancestors and Embracing Spiritual Wisdom
In my journey to understand this land, I learned from the Cahuilla elders who carry centuries of insight and wisdom, a reverence for nature, and a profound respect for balance. This respect has remained intact even as the world around them changed. As a Jewish artist with my own ancestral ties to tradition and land, I felt an intense connection to their values—stewardship, humility, and a deep listening to the spirit of the earth itself. Here, where the desert sands tell their own story, each elder’s voice is a thread tying past to present, reminding us that true wisdom is woven through generations.

A Call for a Conscious Revolution in the Age of AI
Today, we face a new frontier: the dawn of AI and superintelligence. Yet, without the grounding of ancient knowledge, our rush forward risks leaving behind the moral compass we need to guide us. The Cahuilla, like many Indigenous peoples, see the world as an interconnected web of spirit and matter. Their understanding of balance, respect, and stewardship echoes the kind of wisdom that must shape the ethics of tomorrow’s technologies. These shamanic journeys are an invitation to rethink what we consider “progress” in an era of endless advancement. They offer a call for a conscious revolution that integrates scientific discovery with timeless truths—where innovation is tempered by reverence for the land and all it holds.

Each work in this series, each image born from a personal shamanic journey, tells a different story and holds a different vision:
"Sunwalker": Ceramic panels glow with gold and metallic paints, radiating the heat of the desert and the expansive skies above. Patterns inspired by Cahuilla symbols wind across the surface, capturing a journey of light and resilience, where ancient wisdom meets the cosmic pull of the sun.
"Earth’s Pulse": Drawn in rich earth tones with touches of metallic green, this piece channels the desert landscape’s life force. It speaks of the Cahuilla’s intimate knowledge of plants, animals, and sacred ground—a journey deep into the earth's rhythms.
"Echoes of the Stars": This celestial piece is marked by intricate lines and golden accents that emulate constellations, inspired by the Cahuilla’s star-watching traditions. It reflects the human quest to understand our place in the universe, an exploration that spans both shamanic journeying and the far reaches of AI.
Conclusion: Reclaiming Ancient Wisdom for Modern Times
This collection is more than art; it is an offering to the land, to the Cahuilla people, and to a way of life that reveres nature’s wisdom. As technology redefines human experience, this project calls for a reunion of ancient knowledge and modern insight. Let these journeys be reminders to respect the land, to honor its people, and to seek wisdom in its quiet presence. In doing so, we may find a balance that transcends time, crafting a future rooted in understanding and a revolution of consciousness, where humanity thrives not in opposition to the earth but in harmony with it.

The swirling, organic forms that populate these artworks are inspired by the symbols of transformation, spiritual exploration, and the natural world. Many of the compositions feature intricate, almost hypnotic line work that draws the viewer deeper into the image, mirroring the trance-like states often associated with shamanic rituals.
Animals, which in shamanism represent spirit guides, frequently appear as central elements, guiding the viewer through the journey depicted on paper.
In each piece, I aimed to capture the essence of the shamanic practice of merging the physical and spiritual planes—a process that has been both transformative and grounding for practitioners throughout human history. By doing so, I sought to create not just visual art, but a meditative experience for the viewer.
The vibrant, flowing lines and organic shapes are meant to serve as both a reflection of and an invitation to the viewer's inner journey. The use of bold colors emphasizes the intensity of the spiritual experience, while the more muted tones symbolize the grounding forces of nature that keep the shaman rooted in the material world.
Shamanism is an ancient practice that seeks to heal and transform through connection with the unseen realms of spirit. In a time when disconnection from nature and self is pervasive, this series acts as both a reflection of personal exploration and a commentary on the need for society to rediscover that connection.
The interplay between the physical and the spiritual is a recurring motif throughout the series, speaking to the universal human desire for transformation and understanding.
