Objective: For this project, the goal was to develop packaging for Costco that maximized product visibility, durability, and sustainability, all while meeting the retailer’s stringent cost requirements. Clamshell packaging, often criticized for its excessive use of plastic, needed a more eco-friendly approach without sacrificing functionality.
Process: I collaborated closely with the engineering team to develop a new clamshell design that reduced the amount of plastic used by 30%, replacing it with recycled and biodegradable materials. The design allowed for optimal product visibility with a transparent front, ensuring that customers could easily see the product while still keeping it secure.
I worked on simplifying the assembly process to reduce production time and cost, ensuring that the packaging remained affordable for large-scale retail while meeting Costco’s high standards. The package was designed with easy-open features to address common consumer frustrations with clamshell packaging.
Outcome: The design was met with positive reception from both consumers and retailers. Costco adopted the new design for several of its product lines, with the environmentally friendly packaging enhancing the company’s sustainability credentials. It also led to a 40% reduction in production costs due to its streamlined manufacturing process.
These sketches showcase the POS (Point of Sale) displays I developed during my tenure at the artnaturals brand, in collaboration with major retailers like Walmart and Target. Specifically tailored for end cap displays, these designs were instrumental in driving sales and brand visibility. The success of this initiative led to a multi-year partnership, demonstrating the tangible impact of my contributions on revenue generation for both brands.
