The Bay Area is synonymous with innovation, home to some of the world’s most influential tech companies. However, my photography project aimed to explore a different side of the region—the natural habitats and protected species that coexist with Silicon Valley’s technological advancements.

Through my lens, I captured the juxtaposition of towering office buildings and serene landscapes, where species like the California red-legged frog and San Francisco garter snake thrive in protected habitats.
This delicate balance between nature and innovation raises questions about responsibility. As tech companies continue to expand, they must navigate the challenges of sustainability and environmental conservation.
Interestingly, the Bay Area also stands as a hub for environmental consciousness. Many residents are avid runners and outdoor enthusiasts, and there is a growing awareness of the need to protect natural habitats even as the region becomes more urbanized.
However, this issue is not without its political divides. Local policies on environmental conservation vary, with different parties advocating for varying degrees of corporate responsibility and government intervention.
The photographs from this series capture both the beauty of the Bay Area’s natural environment and the looming presence of Silicon Valley’s tech world. The images serve as a reminder of the importance of maintaining balance—between progress and preservation, innovation and responsibility.
